English as an Additional Language Students (EAL)
Students registered in an English as an Additional Language (EAL) program may be designated to specific schools and may also be provided transportation services if they meet eligibility requirements for their designated school. This transportation service may be provided by Charter (yellow) bus or City Transit in which case all eligibility (distance) rules will apply.
French Immersion Students
The District establishes designated schools for French Immersion and transportation may be provided to students according to the guidelines for regular transportation services. Students must meet all eligibility requirements. Students needing transportation services must complete our online Charter (yellow bus) Application or online City Transit Bus Application form depending on the service required. Click here for information on which French Immersion school is designated to your particular residential area.
Special Education Students
Students registered in congregated special education programs may be provided transportation services if they meet eligibility requirements to their attending schools. Transportation Services may be provided by Charter (yellow) bus or City Transit services (Action Bus). This transportation service is established by the school or by student services.
Schools of Choice
Red Deer Public Schools establishes designated schools for each area of the city. Parents and students do however have the opportunity to attend a school of choice if space and resources allow. Transportation services may be available to that (choice) school if the student resides along an existing bus route AND the student's residence is 2.4 km or greater from BOTH their designated school AND their school of choice.
